Electrolysis is the only Permanent hair removal method.
Hair removal has become very popular with a lot of men whether it be for skin problems or for the health conscious or indeed any man to end the drudgery of tweezing, clipping, shaving, wax or laser certain body parts ever again is extremely enticing. For men who seek complete and permanent hair removal on any part of the body, regardless of skin tone or hair colour, electrolysis is the only method approved by both the British Medical Association (BMA) and the FDA as permanent hair removal.
(Shaving doesn’t cause the hair to grow back thicker and darker as in the clip)
Shaving or clipping is the safest option but can be very tiresome if doing large areas, cause nicks and infections especially if the skin is a bit rough but worst of all is the stubble . Waxing can be very painful and ripping the hairs out can not only cause the hair follicle to distort, which can cause infections of the hair follicles causing spots and boils, but also because the trauma causes a rush of blood flow to the damaged area the hair could come back stronger and thicker than before. Laser is a quick option to reduce a large area but you need to go to a highly trained laser technician which is very expensive. At best they can’t get all the hair and it will come back over the years so continued top-up visits to the laser clinic are required, plus regular visits to an electrologist to get rid of any white, red or light hairs, so the total time for permanent hair removal is extended and though you see fast initial results, for a permanent result this option is the most expensive and takes far longer than electrolysis on its own. However, we do work with laser clinics for clients that want to take this route, however do your research to get the right type of laser for your hair/skin type.
The first question we are usually asked by men is if we can handle large areas such as backs, chest and abdomen, depending on the hair density and thickness this can require several months to get the first clearing and then may need a few additional clearings but each time the hair will get finer and slower to come back so the treatments usually start weekly then go to fortnightly and monthly and so on but to get a totally hair free result may take a couple of years.
Electrolysis involves the insertion of a very fine, disposable, sterile probe into the hair follicle. The only sensation is of heat being passed through the probe to seal off the hair at the root. The probe itself is the thickness of the hair and slides into the hair follicle without piercing the skin, some probes are insulated and the heat is directed only to the root and not the entire follicle to reduce the trauma area to a minimum. Modern electrolysis is comfortable, very safe and does not scar. Any effects from the treatment should settle down within an hour.
During a course of treatments there will be a constant, gradual decrease in the growth of the hair until it has all been permanently removed. The number of treatments required will differ from person to person and will be discussed at the initial consultation. Electrolysis can be used on any part of the body. Electrolysis is ideal where ingrown hairs are a recurring problem, such as around the beard area. We frequently treat the top of the nose, chest, back and upper arms. No type or volume of body hair is too stubborn for treatment and no body part too embarrassing. See Also Which areas can I have treated page
